Last Chance for Entrepreneurs to Apply for Canada PR Through the Start-Up Visa Program
Canada has reached an important milestone for immigrant entrepreneurs. If you received a valid Commitment Certificate from a designated organization in 2025, you have until June 30, 2026 to submit your Permanent Residence (PR) application under the Start-Up Visa (SUV) Program.
This deadline represents the final opportunity for eligible entrepreneurs to secure Canadian permanent residence through the current Start-Up Visa program before the government transitions to a new entrepreneur immigration pathway.
What Is Happening?
The Government of Canada officially paused new applications to the Start-Up Visa Program on January 1, 2026. However, entrepreneurs who had already secured support from a designated organization before the program closed were given a transition period to submit their PR applications.
That transition period ends on June 30, 2026. After this date, IRCC will no longer accept permanent residence applications under the existing Start-Up Visa Program, even if applicants intended to apply later.
Who Can Still Apply?
You may still qualify if you meet all of the following conditions:
- You received a valid Commitment Certificate from a designated organization in 2025.
- You have a corresponding Letter of Support.
- You satisfy all eligibility requirements of the Start-Up Visa Program.
- You submit a complete permanent residence application before the June 30, 2026 deadline.
Applications submitted after the deadline will not be accepted under the current program.
